Title:

"Straightjacket"

Airdate:

May 26, 1993

Synopsis:

Caine and Peter go undercover in a mental institution in order to protect a woman who has been committed by a business associate so that he can take control of her company's assets.

Paul's Scenes:

Paul is in five scenes.  My favorite is the one in his office with Peter where they are discussing committing Caine to the institution.  It's always nice to hear RL's laugh and see his smile.

I also like Paul's last scene, the one where he captures two of the bad guys as they're trying to escape.  Notice how he hands his rifle over to an associate, a la Control in the EQ episode "Riding the Elephant".

Comments:

You can see a lot of RL's little quirks in this episode.  He spreads his hands, ends a sentence with "all right?", rubs his thumb on his chest, and looks at Peter over the top of his glasses.  All are mannerisms he used in other roles, particularly as Control in The Equalizer.

Speaking of glasses, I like the ones he was wearing in this episode.  The frames were smaller than some of the others he uses in the series.

Paul uses the same coffee cup in this episode as he did in "The Lacquered Box".

Favorite Quotes:

Peter (about Caine): "He wants me to commit him."

Paul: "Why'd he wait so long?"

* * * * *

Paul: "That's breaking the law, Peter."

Peter: "It's bending, Captain.  We do that."

Paul: "You do that."

Peter: "Well, I had a good teacher."

* * * * *

Paul (to Peter, about Caine): "How's he going to convince them that he needs psychiatric evaluation? (Pause) Forget I asked that, all right?  As far as I'm concerned, the whole family is certified."

Pet Peeves:

None that I can think of.

RL Factor:

Pretty good.  I especially liked him in the blue shirt and red tie.  And it's one of the best episodes to see Paul's sense of humor.
