Title:
"Laurie's Friend"
Airdate:
February 23, 1994
Synopsis:
Peter and Skalany enlist a young psychic to help track down a cop killer.
Paul's Scenes:
He's in four, and it's a toss up between the scene in Kermit's office where Laurie's
friend is revealed and the one in the squad room where he keeps Peter from attacking Reston as to which is my favorite.
Comments:
If I'm not mistaken, this is the only episode that Paul and Kermit are actually
shown in the same scene together. They are both in "Sunday at the Museum with George", but it never shows them
on-screen at the same time. Which is kinda weird considering how close their characters were, both on the show and in
fan fiction.
I didn't like his tie and jackets in this episode, but I did like the tan sweater
and wool overcoat he wore in the last scene.
At the beginning of the show, he arrived at the crime scene in the red Taurus.
This episode was written by Stephen Hattman, who also wrote another second-season
episode, "The Warlord".
Favorite Quote:
Counselor Garrison (after Peter has threatened Reston): "The police commissioner
will be hearing from my office, Captain Blaisdell."
Paul: "Oh, good. Give him my regards."
Pet Peeves:
This doesn't really have anything to do with Paul, but this episode is a prime
example as to why I could never take this show seriously - it was too unrealistic. In this episode alone, Caine dodged
three bullets fired from very close range, plus he scaled the side of a building with no assistance whatsoever
- just walked right up it. I don't mind suspending my disbelief every now and then, but this was just too much.
And it happened on numerous occasions in almost every episode. Personally, I think Caine (and the show)
would have been much more interesting if he hadn't been portrayed as having super-human abilities.
Also, the entire sub-plot with Caine looking just like Laurie's imaginary friend
was totally ridiculous.
RL Factor:
Fair. I didn't particularly like his clothes in this episode and it's obvious
that his health is declining.
