Show:
The Doris Day Show
Episode:
"A Fine Romance"
Airdate:
October 25, 1971
Synopsis:
Assigned to write an article on computer dating, Doris conducts research by
enrolling in a dating service. Mr. Krantz, her first "match", goes to the police because he is convinced that someone
as attractive as Doris doesn't need any help getting a date and therefore must be up to no good. The case
is assigned to Sgt. Bill Winston, who sets up a date with Doris in order to investigate her motives.
RL's Character:
Sgt. Bill Winston
Favorite Scene:
The one where Doris opens the door and finds "George" (the alias Bill
Winston uses) leaning against the door jamb. When he walks into her apartment, she openly ogles his backside. Even
the wholesome Doris couldn't resist checking out his ass. <g>
Favorite Line:
Doris: "Are you really a cop?"
Bill: "Yeah, I am."
Doris (extending her wrists towards him): "Take me away!"
Comments:
This is one of the very few comedies that RL appeared in. I really
wish he would have done more because he was very good in them. He played so many heavy roles that it's always nice
to see him in something lighter.
I am always happy any time there are kissing scenes, and Bill and Doris had
a good one. Which made me realize that Doris Day got to work with some of my all-time favorite leading men - RL,
Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Rock Hudson. If only she had made a movie with Gregory Peck, she would
have had the ultimate career.
This is the only time I remember ever seeing RL in a yellow dress shirt. Unless
Control wore one, which is always a distinct possibility. <g>
RL Factor:
Off the charts. His eyes are especially blue
in this one.
