Show:
Murder, She Wrote
Episode:
"The Prodigal Father"
Airdate:
March 10, 1991
Synopsis:
Jessica investigates the murder of her neighbor's long-lost father, a suspected
bank robber thought to have died twenty years ago.
RL's Character:
Herb Walsh
Favorite Scene:
The one at the beginning of the episode where Herb confronts Ned Jenks.
RL does anger so well. <g> Besides, I have always liked Donnelly Rhodes, so I liked seeing them work together.
Favorite Line:
None.
Comments:
This was at least the third time RL had worked with Andrew Prine. Prine
guest-starred in an episode of TOH ("Follow the Leader"), and he also played RL's no-good brother in a great episode of The
Virginian ("The Brothers"). I didn't realize until I was doing research for this review that Prine was at
one time married to Sharon Farrell, who was RL's co-star in another episode of The Virginian ("Execution at Triste").
Don Galloway, who was a regular on Ironside as Det. Sgt. Ed Brown, was
also in this episode. RL guest-starred in that show in 1968, but I can't remember if he had any scenes with Galloway.
Pet Peeve:
He really wasn't in the episode that much and didn't have a lot to do when he
was. I know they needed to have several guest-stars so there would be plenty of suspects, but I thought his character
was just sort of wasted.
RL Factor:
He looked good, as always, and he did a nice job in what scenes he had, but there
was really nothing distinguishing about his appearance or his performance. He was solid, but this is not an episode that I
watch over and over again.
Availability:
This episode is available on DVD as part
of the complete seventh season box set.
